If you had to ask me “Babs, what is something you’re looking forward to this SPWF?” I would have to answer “Emperor Norton’s Stationary Marching Band, of course!”
Now, to explain what a “Stationary Marching Band” is, is actually pretty easy. You know that marching bands don’t just march, right? In parades and on the field, they frequently have to stand and play their piece to entertain the viewers while things behind the veil are being set up before they move on. Emperor Norton’s is different.
ENSMB is a unique experience of avant-garde jazz, vaudeville, and steampunk sounds, combined with spontaneous parties following in their wake. Literally. There’s nothing like thinking you’re going to go out at 1am to grab a late night pizza or drink outside in a cool breeze when suddenly a band comes by towing a conga line and pausing right in front of you to bring you in.
Interested in seeing more of them? Well at the Steampunk World’s Fair, they have have a Facebook event with new collaborations with This Way to the Egress! Use the event page to find out where they’re performing all weekend, and talk with the band members!
I hope to see you at the Steampunk World’s Fair! Want a picture taken by me? Ask the nearest staff member for Babs Who Takes Pictures!
